Here's a video that's been going around lately. Made in Gibsonville in the 1930's, it shows many familiar places, and faces many will remember from old photographs. If you've been to Gibsonville, take a look and see what you can recognize, and if not, just enjoy the look into our past.

The Mill at Gibsonville
The Mill at Gibsonville is another recent addition to downtown Gibsonville, and the biggest one I’ve seen yet. The mill building has been a part of Gibsonville for as long as anyone can remember- as a resident I remember it officially shutting down when I was a child.
Chris Smith who I met when I went there and Jim Smith have spearheaded an effort to refurbish the building while still keeping many of the original elements. Now the inside of the Mill is stunning, filled with interior decorations, artwork, jewelry and antiques.
Chris has gathered a group of talented friends around her to help her redecorate, gather material, and make material for the store.
They are just finishing up on refurbishing the back room.
The Mill’s facebook is http://www.facebook.com/pages/The-Mill-at-Gibsonville/107008819348597?ref=ts
Their website is http://www.themillatgibsonville.com/
The store is located at 136 Eugene Street, Gibsonville, NC 27249
(On my initial visit, I realized I was hearing live music coming from the back room- it turns out a band was practicing to perform in one of the neighboring stores the next weekend. Gibsonville has even more to offer than I guessed!)
Pat’s Flowers and Gifts
Pat’s Flowers and Gifts Inc is one of the better-known shops in Gibsonville. It’s had some time to earn it’s reputation though- 39 years!
Owned by the partially retired Pat Gerringer Lewis, the shop itself is run by Tammy Patalano. As the name suggest, Pat’s Flowers offers flowers for any occasion, and deliveries to many locations.
The front is also packed with many a bright gift and decoration for purchase. Tammy was kind enough to show me around the whole of the shop- from the back of store where they create their arrangements, to the freezer where they were then storing the corsages for the high school prom goers later that day.
The store’s website is http://www.patsflowersandgifts.com/index.php
Pat’s Flowers and Gifts is located at 111 E. Main St. Gibsonville.

The Flour Bin Bakery
Debbie Jarrett (pictured below) and her daughter Kerrie Fuller opened their new bakery recently. Called The Flour Bin Bakery, they sell a variety of treats such as cake, pie, and other sweets, all made by Debbie.
The walls are brightly painted and decorations include but are not limited to knitted washcloth decorations made by members of Debbie's church. You can eat there or take your order with you!
The business is fairly new, but growing rapidly, and so is the variety of things offered at the Bakery.
The bakery’s facebook is http://www.facebook.com/pages/The-Flour-Bin-Bakery/133830006673598
The bakery is located at 120 West Main Street, Gibsonville, NC 27249 and is open from 8am to 9pm on weekdays and until 2pm on Saturdays
Gibsonville Antiques and Collectables
Another recent addition to the town is Gibsonville Antiques and Collectables, having opened up only late last year.
Run by mother and daughter Myra Burkhead and Amy Riley, the store is quickly filling with a great amount of products from interested vendors. Customers can have cake and coffee at the front of the store, or just browse the vast amount of affordable and interesting stock.
There’s even a reconstruction of an old general store in one of the rooms, and it’s not just for looks- the things in it are for sell!
The store’s facebook is http://www.facebook.com/pages/Gibsonville-Antiques-Collectibles/100559746685531
Gibsonville Antiques and Collectables is located at 106 E. Railroad Avenue (right across the train tracks from Main Street) and it’s store hours are Mondays through Saturdays, 10am-6pm, and Sundays 1pm-5pm.

The Jewelry Village
The Jewelry Village is packed with filled shelves of everything from sterling silver to dichromatic glass pieces, and lots of beautifully beaded necklaces.
When I went in, Mandy Smith, the new owner, was finishing up a custom piece for a customer.
When I asked her what in the store she was most proud of, she quickly pulled out three small but brilliantly coloured pieces. Sections of butterfly wings had been transformed into pendants.
Prices in the store depend, but are overall extremely affordable. Mandy makes some of the pieces herself, like the beautiful bracelet I purchased, and if you need something afterwards (such as a watch you bought from there wound back up) she’ll do it herself.
The store’s facebook is http://www.facebook.com/pages/The-Jewelry-Village/116501269478 and a regular website will soon be up.
The Jewelry Village is located at 205 E. Main St.
Gibsonville, NC. Store hours are 10am-6pm Tuesday through Friday and 10am- 8pm on Saturday.

Once Upon A Chocolate
Once Upon A Chocolate opened here in Gibsonville recently, but the owner Debbie Stephens has been hand making and selling her quality chocolates in Florida since 1992. The outside of the shop is small and cheerfully decorated, and the inside is a chocolate lovers’ paradise. Every wall and shelf is packed with seasonally themed shaped chocolates, and behind the desk at the back (filled with the most elaborate treats) she can often be found carefully making more. Her chocolates are devoid of preservatives, and after trying some of her wares, it’s hard to go back to Hershey’s!
The shop has a steady flow of customers, especially around certain times of the year.
Seasonally themed candy is made fresh- not months beforehand.
Once Upon A Chocolate is located at 139 Piedmont Avenue
Gibsonville, NC 27249
(Next to Pete’s Grill). Store hours are 10am -6pm weekdays and until 3pm on Saturday.
